When you think of a cat, what do you picture? Playful little kittens who go romping around after their balls of string? A regal tom who is sunning himself in all the majesty that caused the Egyptians to raise cats to the status of gods? The frisky feline who stars in the latest cat food commercial? Cats have worked their way into nearly every aspect of our lives.
Cats have an underlying essence of grace, so when they get themselves into hapless situations it tends to tickle our funny bones. Funny cats are endearing, and wind up on T-shirts, coffee mugs, and posters. Who cannot help but chuckle at the sopping kitten that just fell into the toilet – the result of his curiosity getting the better of him? Find beautiful Cute Kittens for Sale, choose your particular favorite ones.
Cats are also mysterious and unexplainable, causing some people to view them as demonic or to be afraid of them. The black cat is one who has been much maligned. A symbolic icon for witches and spooks, black cats are even thought by the superstitious to bring bad luck. During the witch hunts, these unfortunate animals were often burned at the stake with their owners. However, elsewhere in the world black cats are thought to be symbols of good luck, and are treated accordingly.
With the advent of the silver screen and television, funny cat videos found their ways into our lives. Cartoons featuring cats, cutesy cat food commercials, and even home video shows featuring cats abound. The funny cat is a constant source of entertainment. Cats have made their way into film as well. One of the most notorious is the Cheshire cat from Alice and Wonderland. While it is uncertain where the phrase came from, Cheshire cats are best known for their grins. In Disney’s animated version, the Cheshire cat fades away until nothing but his toothy grin remains before vanishing completely.
Another misconception about cats is their behavior towards dogs. Cats and dogs can get along quite nicely, especially if they are raised together. Make sure they grow up together by looking through the puppies for sale. However, many a cat has taken on a dog twice its size if the cat, his territory, or her kittens are threatened, leading to the expression “fighting like cats and dogs”.
The term “cat scratch fever” was made popular by Ted Nugent’s album and title track of the same name. While the song appears to allude to women and sex, there is also a disease by the same name. Cats can spread the bacterial disease to their human counterparts through biting and scratching. Symptoms in humans are generally mild, though can develop complications in persons with immune-deficiency disorders. The cats themselves show no symptoms.
Whether you like big cats, small cats, or something in between, cats have definitely earned their place in our hearts.
