Cat Carriers

When it is time to hit the road, cat + carrier = a must. Cat carriers will help keep your cat safe while you travel, and reduce the risk of him escaping and getting lost.

When choosing a cat carrier, there are many things to take into consideration. How often will your cat use it? What will you be using it for? Does your cat’s personality or style dictate one cat carrier over another?

Depending on what you use it for, cat carriers can have many options. For instance, if you plan on flying with your cat, an airline approved cat carrier is a must. These meet basic guidelines to keep your cat safe while in the air.

When not flying, your cat travel carrier can be very different, depending on you and your cat’s preferences.

For instance, if your cat is difficult to get in and out of cat carriers, top loading cat carriers may work better for you. These cat carriers have a door or access panel at the top of the carrier so that the cat can be dropped in. The Avoir cat carrier is a similar option, with a door that flips up to allow you to place your cat inside, and a smaller door so that you can reach in and comfort him without worrying about an escape.

If your cat is heavy, a rolling cat carrier may be easier for you. These cat carriers come equipped with small wheels so that you can pull the carrier like a piece of luggage.

For a more stylish look, there are several soft sided cat carriers available. These are often made with heavy duty mesh so that your cat can see out and get fresh air while traveling. You can also choose a more stylish purse cat carrier if your cat likes to be toted around. Keep in mind, however, that these are less secure, so an anxious cat should have a more enclosed style.

If your cat will only leave the house once in a blue moon, you can look into cheap cat carriers. Many places sell simple cardboard cat carriers that are nothing more than a box with handles that are good for a single use trip.

Along with cat carriers, there are plenty of accessories. A cat carrier cover can help personalize our cat carrier while protecting your pet from the elements. Or, buy a cat carrier and a toy scented with catnip to make traveling more enjoyable for your cat.
