Cat Breeds

There is a wide variety of cat breeds out there. There are cat breeds with long hair, cat breeds with short hair, and even some without hair at all. Each of the different cat breeds has followers who love them for different reasons. For a cat breed list, you can check out the TICA website for a complete listing of all the recognized breeds. This includes some familiar favorites, such as Abyssinian, the Himalayan, and the Siamese, as well as less well known ones like the Peterbald, Siberian, and Ojos Azules.

Some people are mistaken in thinking that different colors are actually breeds of cats. However, there is no calico cat breed or black cat breed – these are merely genetic variations of color. And, a calico cat may not have calico kittens, and a black cat can have a white mother. With a breed of cat, cat breeders will get the same characteristics with every litter – a Persian will always have long hair, Bengals will always have spots, and the Sphinx will always be bald. With the exception of breeds that have specific color markings, as in the Siamese, many of the cat breeds can have a calico or a black cat.

Among the domestic cat breeds, any can be breeds of house cats. However, due to certain personality traits, some cats may be better suited for smaller spaces while others need room to room. The Persian, for instance, tends to have a calmer demeanor, while the Abyssinian is much more active and needs room to climb and play.

If you are looking for a specific type of cat, you can try a breeder. For instance, if you are looking for a Devon Rex cat, you will want to look for a breeder in high regard that has experience showing and breeding Devon Rex cats. He or she will know all of the characteristics of a true to standard cat, and will often be able to help you make the determination if that cat would work with your lifestyle.

Of course, the love of certain cat breeds does not stop with just the cat. Many people also collect objects that represent all breeds of cat. Cat breed specific gifts are easy to find online and at pet and specialty stores and range from cat breed pillows to sterling silver and gold cat breed jewelry. With a little research you are sure to find the perfect gift for the cat lover in your life.
