If you own a cat, fleas can be a problem. No cat is safe – not even that are outside. Cat fleas can cause uncomfortable itchy and spread disease.

To keep from getting fleas, cats need to be protected. Keeping your cat from getting fleas is a whole lot easier than getting rid of fleas once you find them. Flea control for cats comes in a variety of forms. Advantage is a tick and flea control cats can use. Another topical flea medicine is dog and cat frontline, an advantage is that it is safe for either animal. You should only use products that are labeled to kill fleas on cats; some products for dogs include chemicals that are toxic to cats. Cat flea and tick control is formulated to be safe. You can also get cat flea medicine in an oral formula to give your cat.

If you see them, you may wonder how to treat cat fleas. Flea control can get rid of cat fleas that are on your pet, and some will stop the reproductive cycle of the flea by sterilizing the eggs. You must also treat the environment where the cat fleas live. Start by washing any bedding, blankets, etc. that your cat has lain on, and vacuum anything that cannot be thrown in the washer. Dispose of the vacuum bag immediately to prevent the fleas from hopping out and re-infesting the house. In extreme cases, an exterminator may need to be called to get rid of cat fleas. Keep all animals in your house on a flea preventative to prevent future infestations.

You can try and application of dog and cat flea and tick frontline, or remove it with tweezers. When removing it, make sure that you have a firm grasp of the head before pulling; otherwise, the body will break off leaving the head imbedded in the skin.
